In small groups and then as a class, using colourful illustrations on magnets for visual support, students will discuss and learn about the gifts the buffalo gave to the Dakota people and other Plains First Nation people who lived in the area.
As a group, listening to a reading the story Buffalo Dreams at least twice, students will use comprehension strategies to help them understand the importance of the white buffalo calf and be introduced to the White Buffalo Woman.
Through the use of an iBook or a printed copy of the book, students can learn about the Whitecap Dakota Circle of Life and the importance of the number four.
This booklet is the foundational educational resource for the lesson material. It tells of the history and culture of the Dakota and the Whitecap Dakota First Nation.
